Kaneo Ishimori — The Man Behind the Technology

Mr Kaneo Ishimori is the Japanese inventor and developer behind the Subcritical Water (SCW) processing technology promoted by Recycling Oceania. His work has focused on developing practical industrial systems capable of transforming waste materials into useful resources.

For almost three decades, his technology has progressed beyond laboratory research into commercial installations in Japan, including systems designed to process municipal, medical and industrial waste.

Working with Arinkai in Japan, Recycling Oceania is now introducing this technology to potential partners in New Zealand, with an emphasis on understanding the existing commercial experience, independently evaluating performance and identifying suitable local applications.

In Conversation with Kaneo Ishimori

Behind every technology is a story of development, experimentation and perseverance. Recycling Oceania has published a series of interviews with Mr Kaneo Ishimori, exploring his work, the development of Subcritical Water processing technology and his experiences bringing it into commercial use.

These conversations provide an opportunity to hear directly from the inventor and better understand the thinking behind the technology.

Nearly Three Decades of Development and Innovation

For nearly 30 years, Mr Kaneo Ishimori has worked to turn Subcritical Water processing from an engineering concept into practical industrial equipment. His work has involved developing pressure vessels, refining operating conditions and adapting the technology to different waste streams.

One of the important aspects of his work is that the technology has been developed through actual commercial installations in Japan. Operating experience has helped inform subsequent equipment designs and improvements.

Today, Ishimori continues to develop the technology in cooperation with Arinkai, including larger processing systems and portable equipment intended to bring SCW processing closer to where waste is generated.

Patents and Intellectual Property

Mr Kaneo Ishimori’s work includes patented developments relating to Subcritical Water processing technology and associated industrial equipment. These developments reflect his continuing efforts to improve the practical application of SCW technology to waste treatment and resource recovery.

Patent documentation provides an important part of the technology’s development history, alongside the commercial operating experience accumulated in Japan.

Continuing Development with Arinkai

Mr Kaneo Ishimori remains closely involved in the ongoing development and direction of SCW technology. His decades of practical experience continue to inform improvements in equipment design, processing capabilities and potential new applications.

Working alongside Arinkai in Japan, Ishimori continues to advance the technology, while Recycling Oceania is working to introduce it to potential partners in New Zealand and across Oceania. The objective is to build on Japan’s commercial experience through independent testing, engineering evaluation and the development of commercially viable local projects.

Patents and International Intellectual Property

Kaneo Ishimori’s development of Subcritical Water processing technology is supported by Japanese patents and international patent applications covering specialised waste-treatment equipment and processing systems.
These include: Japanese Patent No. 7311935
Organic Waste Treatment Apparatus and Organic Waste Treatment System
(有機系廃棄物処理装置及び有機系廃棄物処理システム)

  • Inventor: Kaneo Ishimori (石森 鋼男)
  • Patent holder: General Incorporated Association for Comprehensive Subcritical Water Reaction Technology Research (亜臨界水反応総合技術研究会)
  • International application: PCT/JP2022/007133

The international application identifies patent protection being pursued across multiple jurisdictions, including countries in Southeast Asia, Europe and the Americas.

Japanese Patent No. 7531955
Chlorine-Containing Waste Treatment Apparatus and Method for Dechlorinating Chlorine-Containing Waste
This patent relates to equipment and methods for treating chlorine-containing waste materials, an important consideration when processing waste streams containing materials such as PVC. Both patents identify Kaneo Ishimori as the inventor and the Japanese research association as the patent holder.

International Patent Development

Arinkai reports patent activity extending beyond Japan, including Indonesia and Vietnam. We also understand that patent applications relating to the technology are pending in New Zealand and Australia, although their current status has yet to be independently confirmed.
